Zomato included in the FTSE4Good Index Series for strong ESG practices

Zomato, India’s online food ordering and delivery platform, announced that it has been included in the FTSE4Good Index Series. Created by the global index and data provider FTSE Russell, the FTSE4Good Index Series is designed to measure the performance of companies demonstrating strong Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices. The FTSE4Good indexes are used by a wide variety of market participants to create and assess responsible investment funds and other products.

FTSE Russell evaluations are based on performance in areas such as corporate governance, health & safety, anti-corruption and climate Ccange. Businesses included in the FTSE4Good Index Series meet a variety of environmental, social and governance criteria.

With sustainability deeply ingrained in Zomato’s core business ethos, Zomato ranked 1st in the ESG rating in the technology sub-sector (internet), scoring 3.7 out of 5: Environment at 2.4, Social at 4, and Governance at 5. Zomato has also achieved a higher score than the industry average in several key areas, including climate change, water security, human rights, labour standards, anti-corruption measures, and corporate governance.

Commenting on this achievement, Anjalli Ravi Kumar, chief sustainability officer, Zomato, said, “It is a matter of considerable pride for all of us at Zomato to be included in the FTSE4Good global index. In January 2024, Zomato unveiled its sustainability goals for 2030, centred around eight key themes aligned with its “better food for more people” vision. These goals, developed through extensive stakeholder engagement and materiality assessments, aim to address critical issues like climate change, food waste, and social equity. Key targets include achieving net-zero emissions across the food delivery value chain by 2033, supporting the growth of 300,000 restaurant businesses, empowering 1 million gig workers, and providing 300 million nutritious meals to underprivileged communities. Zomato is committed to a sustainable future, prioritising environmental responsibility, social impact, and ethical business practices across its operations.
