Indian tennis player Sumit Nagal was knocked out in the first round of Wimbledon 2024 by Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic. This was Nagal’s first time playing in the main draw at Wimbledon. Despite a strong effort, he lost the match in four sets with scores of 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, and 4-6. The match lasted two hours and 38 minutes.

Nagal, ranked 72nd in the world, made 44 unforced errors and scored 104 points, while Kecmanovic, ranked 53rd, scored 122 points and served six aces. This was Kecmanovic’s second win against Nagal; the first was at an ATP event in Cologne four years ago.

Nagal is the first Indian men’s singles player to play in Wimbledon’s main draw in five years, following Prajnesh Gunneswaran in 2019, who also lost in the first round.

Earlier in 2024, Nagal played in the main draws of the Australian Open, French Open, Indian Wells Masters, and Monte Carlo Masters. He also won the Heilbronn Challenger and the Chennai Open ATP Challenger.

Nagal made history by being the first Indian male tennis player to beat a seeded player in a Grand Slam when he defeated 31st-seeded Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan at the Australian Open.

Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden, the second-seeded team, will play against France’s Adrian Mannarino and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. N Sriram Balaji and his partner Luke Johnson from Great Britain will take on French Open champions Mate Pavic and Marcelo Arevalo. Yuki Bhambri and Frenchman Albano Olivetti will face Alexander Bublik and Alexander Shevchenko of Kazakhstan.
