Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal will Marry in a civil ceremony on June 23
Mumbai, June 23, 2024 — In a move that symbolizes the unity of hearts over traditional rituals, Bollywood actors Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal are set to marry today in a civil ceremony under the Special Marriage Act, 1954. The wedding will take place at the groom’s residence in the presence of a marriage registrar, marking the couple’s commitment without adhering to either Hindu or Muslim customs.
A Union Beyond Religion
Zaheer’s father, Iqbal Ratansi, confirmed the nature of the ceremony, stating, “It will have neither Hindu nor Muslim rituals. It will be a civil marriage.” He dismissed any speculation about Sonakshi converting to Islam, emphasizing that their union is grounded in mutual love and respect, transcending religious boundaries. “She is not converting, and that is for sure. Theirs is a union of hearts, and religion has no role to play whatsoever. I believe in humanity. God is called Bhagwan by Hindus and Allah by Muslims. But at the end of the day, we are all human beings. My blessings are with Zaheer and Sonakshi,” he said.
Celebrations to Follow
After completing the legal formalities, the newlyweds will host a celebratory party at Bastian, a favorite dining spot for celebrities in Mumbai. The couple recently threw a pre-wedding bash attended by close friends and family, including Sonakshi’s parents, Shatrughan Sinha and Poonam Sinha.
Family Reactions
Initially, rumors suggested that Shatrughan Sinha was dissatisfied with the union, as he had commented on being “waiting to be informed” about his daughter’s plans. However, he later dispelled any notions of discord, affirming his support and intention to attend the wedding. “I will be there at the wedding, certainly. Why shouldn’t I, and why won’t I? Her happiness is my happiness, and vice versa. She has every right to choose her partner and the other details of her wedding,” he told Zoom. He also expressed his approval of the couple, stating they “look very nice together.”
