PM Modi is expected to attend the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) this year. Reports indicate that Modi will address the international forum on September 26. His name is included in the provisional list released by the UN. The UNGA sessions will be held from September 24 to September 30, with the President of Brazil delivering the opening address, followed by the President of the United States. The UN’s provisional schedule notes that the Indian Prime Minister will speak on the afternoon of September 26.
However, this schedule is subject to change, and there could be alterations to the list of attendees and the agenda. Notably, Prime Minister Modi did not attend last year’s UN General Assembly. Initially, the UN announced his speech, but later, the updated list included Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar instead. Prime Minister Modi last addressed the UNGA in September 2021.
Having recently assumed office for the third time, Modi is likely to participate in this year’s assembly. Last year, he visited the UN headquarters on June 21 for the International Day of Yoga, a few months before the General Assembly. This year’s sessions may include a resolution on the Global Digital Compact.
