Efforts for consensus included Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju meeting with opposition leaders like Congress’ Mallikarjun Kharge. However, the BJP was not willing to commit immediately, leading to a stalemate and the eventual nomination of Suresh.

The opposition, on the other hand, accused the BJP of disregarding democratic norms and conventions. Rahul Gandhi highlighted the contradiction between Prime Minister Modi’s call for constructive cooperation and the lack of reciprocal respect shown to opposition leaders during negotiations.
