IHG Hotels & Resorts Opens First Voto Property in India
In April 2024, IHG Hotels & Resorts inaugurated their first voco-branded property in India, situated near Jim Corbett Park. Suprabhath Roy Chowdhury, the general manager of the newly opened hotel,
“This is the first Vovo to open in India, and as of now, we have 72 Vovo hotels operational all across the globe. This is a very young brand that has been developed by IHG and isn’t one of the legacy brands. We launched the brand in 2018 in Australia and in fact recently celebrated the brand’s sixth anniversary on June 14,” Roy Chowdhury stated.
The Voco brand, known for its conversion-friendly approach, is rapidly expanding in India, with planned openings in Mumbai, Gurugram, Bengaluru, Goa, and Amritsar. The next Voco property set to open is in Mumbai. Roy Chowdhury explained that both the Jim Corbett and Mumbai properties are conversions, reflecting the brand’s flexibility and appeal.
“This used to be the Anand Corbett Aamod Resort. The owning company operated the property for a number of years before deciding to go with Voco,” he said, noting that the conversion process took approximately one and a half years.
The transformation included revamping the original property and constructing new rooms, resulting in a total of 70 rooms spread across 13.5 acres. One of the standout features of the property is the presence of 100 mango trees and mango courtyard rooms. Additionally, IHG added Kosi river view rooms, some with sit-out areas, during the rebranding. Enhancements also included the addition of a restaurant and bar situated on the riverbank, contributing to the property’s appeal. A total of 24 rooms were added to the original inventory, enhancing the accommodation capacity.
The introduction of voco near Jim Corbett Park marks a significant milestone for IHG in India, promising guests a blend of unique experiences and high-quality service synonymous with the voco brand.
