Gujarat is experiencing heavy rains for the second consecutive day. This weather pattern is influenced by a cyclonic circulation over Madhya Pradesh and a trough formed between South Gujarat and Bihar. These conditions have brought significant rainfall across the region, especially in Southern Saurashtra.
In Visavadar, over the past two days, a staggering 7.50 inches of rain has been recorded. This includes 1.5 inches of rain that fell last night, after 6 inches of torrential downpour from the previous night into the morning. The rainfall has caused severe water-logging and flooding in many areas.
Various talukas in the region, including Junagadh city, Dhoraji, and Upleta in Rajkot district, have also recorded about 4 inches of rain. This has led to flooding in local rivers.
Today, heavy rains were reported in several districts. Junagadh, Botad, Rajkot, Amreli, and Surendranagar in Saurashtra experienced significant rainfall. Other districts, such as Valsad, Kheda, Navsari, Patan, Mehsana, and Banaskantha, also saw heavy rains, while Morbi, Kutch, Jamnagar, and Dwarka received lesser amounts.
Overall, 189 talukas across the state received rainfall from 6 AM to 8 PM today. The highest rainfall was recorded in Umarpada, Surat, with 4.5 inches. This year, Gujarat has received an average of 46.50 inches of rainfall, compared to 38 inches last year. South Gujarat and Saurashtra have seen a record 37 percent more rainfall than usual.
In Junagadh, the rain has been particularly heavy. Areas like Datar and Girnar have received around 10 inches. The steps of Girnar have turned into streams due to the flowing water. There have been reports of vehicles being swept away near Bharati Ashram in Bhavanath Taleti, where roads have also been damaged. Several reservoirs have overflowed, especially around the Sonarkh and Kalwa rivers.
Widespread rainfall has been recorded in various talukas. In Sorath Panthak, 6 inches fell in Visavadar. Other areas, such as Manavadar and Bhensan, reported 3.5 inches, while Mangrol and Vanthali received around 3 inches. Upleta experienced 3 inches of rain, with nearby villages getting similar amounts. The rainfall in Upleta has reached a total of 47.50 inches this monsoon.
In Rajkot district, rainfall has also been significant. Dhoraji saw another 4 inches of rain today. The rain intensity increased later in the day, further affecting local conditions. Rural areas reported 2 to 3 inches of rain as well. Jamkandorana recorded an additional inch today, bringing its seasonal total to 46 inches.
Gondal faced a cloudburst, resulting in about 2.5 inches of rain in the past 24 hours. This has caused flooding in underbridges and various city areas. Jetpur also received around 2.5 inches of rain, with its total rainfall now at 43 inches.
Rajkot city was lashed by rain, while Kotdasangani recorded 2 inches. On the Rajkot-Bhavnagar road, 1.5 inches of rain fell today.
In Amreli district, unseasonal rains continued. Fishermen were warned of strong winds reaching 45 km/h along the coast. Bagsara received about 3 inches of rain, while the Munjiyasar dam is close to overflowing. Other areas like Babra, Rajula, and Dolasa reported around 1.5 inches, bringing relief to farmers.
Gir Somnath district also saw cloud cover with 1.5 inches of rain in Kodinar and light showers in surrounding areas. Surendranagar recorded 2.5 inches of rain in Chuda and 1.5 inches in Sayla and Vadhwan.
